Mokkamestarit's coffee courses
Updated course schedule coming 2024.
The Mokkamestarit courses held at the roastery are meant for everyone keen on developing their coffee brewing skills, learn modern ways to make drinks, and to advance their coffee expertise.
The courses are ideal for people who have a connection with coffee from barista at a cafe or restaurant, students oriented towards the sector, to teachers in educational institutions, and home baristas.
Hand Brews
- Introduction to coffee's journey from bushes to kitchen: background of coffee varietals and a glimpse to different coffee processing methods
- Corner stones of coffee making:
- Choosing a coffee
- Correct dosing and grind level
- Cleaning and maintenance
- Choosing a correct ratio for dosing and measuring
- Importance of clean, fresh water
- An in-depth look at filter coffee methods and making coffee with chosen methods (2-3 pcs), such as Aeropress, Chemex, Hario V60, Clever Drippper, French Press etc.

Barista 1
- Introduction to the properties of coffee equipment
- Making an espresso
- Adjusting coffee grinding to the optimal from the coffee mill
- The fundamentals of milk frothing
- The art of pouring milk and how latte art is created
- Making an espresso, double espresso, cappuccino and latte
- Machine cleaning and hygiene
- The attendee is given the course material in written form and a course certificate

Barista 2
- Adjusting a modern ”On-Demand” coffee mill
- Making two types of espresso, tasting and analysing the experiences
- Non-stop instruction in milk frothing
- Latte art practice
- The attendee is given the course material in writing and a course certificate

Aeropress
- Cornerstones of successful coffee making
- It’s all about AeroPress: Different recipes and tools (e.g. Fellow Prismo)
- Troubleshooting: how to fix possible problems and how to avoid them in the future

Latte Art
- Milk frothing and pouring techniques
- Basic & advanced latte art patterns and different techniques (free pour, etching etc)
- Differences in milks and plant based drinks and chemistry behind them
- Try different milk jugs and learn about the differences

Participating in the course requires basic barista skills. For example Barista 1 & 2 courses or otherwise acquired basic skills. If you are not sure about your skills, please contact us before registering.
